Steam Engine Simulator

Privacy Policy · last updated 30 July 2026

Steam Engine Simulator collects nothing about you. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind. The game never sends your progress, your settings, or anything else to us or to anyone else.

Who publishes this

Steam Engine Simulator is published by Peter Benner. Any question about this policy, or about privacy in the game, can be sent to getawaygolf2@gmail.com.

What we collect

Nothing. We do not collect, store, or receive any personal information about you. There is no sign-in, no profile, no advertising identifier, and no analytics. We never see that you played, let alone how.

What the app stores on your device

The game keeps two small files so it can remember where you were:

Neither contains anything personal, and neither is ever transmitted. Where they live, and how to remove them, depends on the version:

iOS
Inside the app's own storage. Deleting the app deletes them. If you have device backups switched on, they may be included in your own backup, which is under your control rather than ours.
Windows
In your user profile folder, under AppData. These are kept deliberately so your progress survives reinstalling, which also means uninstalling the game does not remove them; delete that folder to clear them.
Browser
In your browser's storage for the site hosting the game. Clearing site data for that site removes them.

Reset Game on the Settings screen clears your level progress and returns every level to locked. It does not change your display and control preferences.

Network use

The iOS and Windows versions make no network connections at all. They contain everything they need and run entirely offline.

The browser version is different, and you should know how. To keep the download small, the web page fetches the Python runtime it needs from pygame-web.github.io, which is operated by GitHub, each time the page loads. Like any web page request, that tells GitHub your IP address and which browser you are using, and GitHub handles it under its own privacy policy. The game itself still sends nothing — no progress, no settings, no identifiers. If you would rather no third party saw a request at all, use the iOS or Windows version.

Third parties

There are none in the iOS and Windows versions: no advertising networks, no analytics providers, no crash reporters, no social or tracking components of any kind are built into them. The browser version involves GitHub only in the way described above, as the host of the runtime it downloads. If you play the browser version on a games site such as itch.io, that site is showing you its own page around the game and applies its own privacy policy to it; this policy covers the game, not its host.

How long anything is kept

Because nothing is transmitted, there is nothing for us to hold, and so nothing for us to keep or delete. The two files described above stay on your own device until you remove them, by the means listed for your version. If you believe we hold data about you, write to the address above and we will confirm what is true: we hold none.

Children

The game is made to be played by people of all ages, including children, in museums and at home. Because it collects nothing, it collects nothing from children either. There is no advertising, no chat, no social features, no links out of the game, and no in-app purchases.

Changes to this policy

If the game changes in a way that affects this policy, this page will be updated and the date at the top changed with it.
